Ecuador
Destinations and Activities
We know that our core trips might not necessarily fit everyone's schedule. With the ideas of flexibility and keeping satisfied customers in mind, we're happy to let you know that we specialize in private and custom trips, and will tailor an adventure to your desires and interests; from a personalized departure date to a full-blown custom trip. Below is a small sample of destinations and activities to consider including in your customized experience:
Galapagos Extension: Expand your exploration of Ecuador with a four-, five- or eight-day trip to the evolutionary wonders of the Galapagos Islands. Live aboard one of our boats, ranging from clean and comfortable to luxury accommodations. Swim, snorkel, hike, and dive among the sea lions, birds, iguanas, and other amazing animals on the islands. For more information, please see our Galapagos pages
Andean Markets and Hiking: Make time for the unique Andean highlands-- visit the market in Otavalo for colorful rugs, tapestries, weavings, and jewelry; hike through the grassy paramo, up to Lagunas de Mojanda, and if you are feeling adventurous, continue up 14,000 foot Fuya Fuya for 360 degree views.
Termas De Papallacta Hot Springs and Spa: Perched on a high Andean valley and on the entrance route to the Ecuadorian Amazon jungle, the spa is located 40 miles east of Quito. The resort offers hot springs, diverse treatments at the health spa, accommodation in hotel rooms or cabins, and hiking and rafting at the Rancho del Canon (Canyon Ranch) or at the Cayambe-Coca Ecological Reserve. The hot springs are divided into two areas, one for day guests and one for overnight guests; overnight guests have semi-private pools right outside the cabin doors.
Pappallacta is Ecuadorian-owned and is the first land-based Ecuadorian company to attain certification in sustainable development in accordance with the standards as set out by Smart Voyager, Rainforest Alliance and the Conservation and Development Corporation.
Lodging Highlight: Yachana Lodge sits amid 3,000 acres of primary and secondary rainforest on the banks of the Rio Napo within the buffer zone of Gran Sumaco National Park. With one of Yachana's naturalist guides you will discover how the area's peoples have co-existed with the forest for centuries, learn how medicinal plants are used, visit a traditional healer, and explore the lush tropical rainforest. The Lodge is run by a non-profit organization and serves as an important source of income for community development and environmental protection projects. Savor traditional local foods prepared by specially trained cooks; many of the ingredients come directly out of the surrounding jungle. Oh, and above all - don't miss their delicious locally made gourmet jungle chocolate!
