How do you accommodate guests of varying abilities?
Our trips are designed for active travelers of varying ability and fitness levels. We realize that many people don't have the time to exercise daily, while others can’t get enough, so we make all of our trips flexible enough to cater to varying abilities by providing two or more options for most activities. In addition, your comprehensive pre-departure pack and trip planner will suggest a training program so that you can get the most out of your experience.
What kind of shape do I need to be in to enjoy my trip?
You will get the most of your experience with Aventouras if you’re reasonably fit. Therefore, we encourage you to engage in some sort of aerobic activity for at least 15 minutes, three times a week. Once you’re comfortable with this pace, you should slowly increase the duration and difficulty of the activity for a few consecutive days until you’re comfortable covering the distances detailed in your trip itinerary. If you're considering a specific trip, please call us and we can tell you about the exact hikes, bikes rides, rafting, and other activities on that itinerary.
How long will we be active each day?
Vacation time is precious, so we provide you with plenty of freedom and flexibility. All of our trips offer various activity options and route lengths, so you can engage in as much, or as little, activity as you’d like. We can also shorten or lengthen our activities to suit your fancy. On an average day, though, you'll typically spend an average of three to six hours being active.
Do I have to carry any of my own luggage or gear?
Your guides will transport your luggage between each evening’s accommodations. They'll also gladly transport, and if necessary, pick up any purchases you make along the way. You only need to carry a small daypack or fanny pack with snacks, water, and any personal items needed for the day’s activity.
Who travels with Aventouras and how large will my group be?
Our trips attract travelers of all ages who represent a diversity of interests and occupations, but share a love for authentic experiences and the great outdoors. Interested in joining a trip? We’ll inform you of the group make up and, whenever possible, the age range of participants.
Our group sizes are always limited to twelve. Therefore, we maintain one of the industry’s best guide to guest ratios for our activities—1:6. By limiting the size of our groups, we can get to know you and ensure that all of your needs are met while providing you with access to small family-run inns and pristine places that are simply not available to larger groups.
If I'm traveling alone, will you find me a roommate or can I get a private room?
Our trip prices are based on double occupancy. If you prefer, single rooms are available for an additional charge as a single supplement.
If you are traveling alone and wish to share accommodations, we can usually find you a roommate. If you sign up 90 days or more prior to your departure, and we do not find you a roommate, 50% of the single supplement charge will be waived and you'll have a single rom at half of the supplement charge. If you sign up within 90 days or less of trip departure, and we can't match you with another guest, you will be charged the full single supplement fee.
Will I have time to spend on my own?
Though our days are typically filled with activities, we schedule individual time on all of our trips to explore, shop, or simply relax. Want more free time? You can have as much or as little as you like. This is your vacation, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs, whatever they may be.
Can I purchase gift certificates from Aventouras?
An authentic adventure with Aventouras makes for a perfect gift for a friend, family member or as part of a company reward program. Gift certificates are available in any amount and can be applied by the recipient toward any trip with Aventouras, pending availability. How far in advance do I need to book?
To ensure trip availability, we strongly suggest that you make reservations at least 120 days prior to departure. Please note that reservations made within 90 days of trip departure require a full credit card payment at the time of booking.

Does Aventouras offer any group discounts?
Aventouras offers a 10% discount to groups of five or more who jointly confirm reservations for the same regularly scheduled trip.
What if I get sick and have to cancel my trip?
Aventouras offers its guests a travel protection plan that covers trip cancellation for medical reasons, travel delays, medical expenses, accidental death, lost baggage and medical evacuation. Please call 800-930-2846 and speak with one of our expert trip consultants if you have specific coverage questions.
